|
| Your
subconscious mind is the part of you that is in charge of your automatic
functions, like making your heart beat, digesting your food and healing
wounds. |
|
| |
|
| It is also the
part that is in control of all your emotional feelings, your creative
imagination and your ability to meditate and dream. It enables you
to do many things like walking down the street, driving a car safely
and singing in tune, without you having to consciously think about
it. |
|
| |
|
That’s
because your subconscious mind stores all of your
memories – every experience you have ever had – everything
you have ever seen, heard, felt, tasted or smelled. |
|
| |
|
| That’s
why they say you never forget how to ride a bike, your subconscious
has retained that knowledge and that information is available to you
in an instant, because in your subconscious mind, there is no past,
it doesn’t matter how long ago the event happened. Everything
is there as if it had just happened. |
|
| |
|
| So when you make
the decision to ride a bike after many years, your subconscious can
immediately provide you with the information on how to do that, even
though you may not consciously remember learning how to ride a bike. |
|
| |
|
Or
course, your body may not necessarily co-operate
if you have aged somewhat during the intervening time,
but you will still know how. |
|
| |
|
| I like to think
of the subconscious as like a pond, with many your past experiences
floating on top like waterlilies. These are the experiences that you
call on most often in your day to day life. Then there are some floating
just below the surface, you have to think a little bit before it comes
to you. There are also some on the bottom of the pond, which you may
not have needed for some time or need very rarely. And there are some
buried under the sand on the bottom that you don’t even know
are there. |
|
| |
|
| Your subconscious
is not rational, it does not discriminate or make decisions, it acts
only on the information you give it through your thoughts and actions
and on information it has gathered from your past experiences, whether
or not you consciously remember them. |
|
| |
|
It
accepts this information as fact and acts on it instantly.
If you think you are dumb the subconscious accepts that
and will cause you to act like a dumb person. |
|
| |
|
Your subconscious
accepts information you give it as real and works to make it true.
If you constantly think of yourself in a negative way, your subconscious
will make sure that you become the person that you think you are. |
|
| |
|
| In the same way,
if you change the way you think about yourself, your subconscious
will eventually co-operate and work to make you into that type of
person. |
|
| |
|
Your
subconscious mind does not know the difference
between a real and an imagined experience. |
|
| |
|
You can use your
imagination to create a better life for yourself by focusing on what
you want from life. Or you can continue focusing on what is wrong
in your life and keep creating that.
|
|
| The subconscious
is often called the creative mind, because it creates your world based
on your perceptions or beliefs. Change your beliefs or perceptions
and you can change your life. |
|
| |
|
Although
some of your memories are not accessible,
(buried under the sand) they determine how you
react throughout your life. |
|
| |
|
| That’s
why you sometimes react to something someone has said or done and
then wonder why you got so upset. It’s because it was similar
to something that happened to you long ago, you might not remember
the incident, but your subconscious remembers and also remembers how
you reacted, and so caused you to react the same way. |
|
| |
|
| For example you
may have had the experience, as a small child, of being locked in
a cupboard and be unable to open the door to get out. |
|
| |
|
| Although you
may not consciously remember the experience, you would probably experience
feelings of fear when you find yourself in a situation that is similar
to the subconscious. Being in an elevator for example. |
|
| |
|
Fear
is a learned response. |
|
| |
|
| Most people are
afraid of spiders. However, a small baby crawling along the floor
will not hesitate to head straight for an ugly looking spider and
try to touch it. They have not yet learned to fear spiders. |
|
| |
|
| Once you have
learned to fear something, your subconscious never forgets. Obviously,
some fears are good, because it means we can act fast when faced with
danger, and it is probably a good thing to teach our children to be
afraid of deadly creatures, as a lack of fear in them could very well
lead to disaster. |
|
| |
|
However, some
fears are irrational, they can result from an early childhood experience
that is no longer relevant to you as an adult. In some cases they
can even cause phobias, obsessive compulsive disorders and all kinds
of emotional and behavioural problems
